Lyon is to me a mix of French countryside, a metropolis with a dash of ancient Roman ruins thrown in for good measure.

The most dominate skyline feature of Lyon is the church and amphitheatre. Walk across the river and head directly up the hill, it’s a rather steep incline so be prepared for a bit of sweat if it’s a 38degree day like it was for us.

A Roman museum is located next to the amphitheatre and has some very intriguing artifacts including an amazing mosaic floor that you can walk on

But for many, Lyon is the capital of traditional French cuisine. And one of the best is “brasserie george” it had all the traditional French cuisine anyone could want. The Escargo with garlic and butter was a particular delight

But when visiting Lyon, go to the historical centre and just enjoy the museums and fountains that dot the city. Taking a river cruise also gives another view that you would otherwise miss
